Around the world, 884 million people do not have access to safe drinking water and 2.6 billion are without adequate sanitation facilities. Every day, nearly 6,000 people who share our planet die from water-related illnesses, and the vast majority are children.
Water For People wants to change all that and the Washington, DC Water For People Committee is helping to make this happen. Long lasting solutions are at the forefront of how Water For People plans, creates, monitors and follows up on our programs. For 20 years, we have been working with local partners to bring safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and hygiene education to rural and peri-urban communities in the developing world. We keep solutions local so that the tools and resources needed for maintenance and repair are never too far away.
As an international development organization, we are working to make an impact that will last for generations and reach every household, every school and every clinic in the regions we serve. We believe in transparency and accountability in attaining our goal of 100% coverage and use a real-time data collection tool (FLOW) that is gathering location and status information on every Water For People Project and sharing it with the public.
The Washington, DC Water For People Committee is one of 59 committees throughout North America supporting Water For People's mission through community outreach, advocacy, and fundraising. We host monthly meetings and local events that focus on increasing awareness and knowledge for the cause of providing everyone worldwide with access to a safe and adequate water supply.
Our vision is a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation, a world where no one suffers or dies from a water- or sanitation-related disease. That vision is within reach and we hope you'll join us. For additional information about the DC Committee or to get involved, please email us.
